Even more seriously, it is an establishment that persists in frenetically sweeping legitimate genres of new anomalous phenomena under its intellectual carpet, thereby denying its own well-documented heritage that anomalies are the most precious raw material from which future science is formed. ...." @@@@@@@@@@@@ The Catt Question , previously called The Catt Anomaly , is more powerful than the "anomalous phenomena" discussed in the above article. This is because it is a "Thought Experiment", not a scientific experiment. As such, it is even more powerful for purpose than traditional anomalies, the results of experminents, which the article, and also Kuhn, say are central to scientific advance. "The Catt Question" represents a new landmark in scientific advance. Another factor makes work on The Catt Question a major landmark, missing from all other writing in this field . It is the proof that Establishment figures who think they are defending the fashionable theory against heresy gradually lose competence in the theory they think they are defending. This was predicted in my 1978 article The Rise and Fall of Bodies of Knowledge ["The central body of knowledge ossifies, becomes brittle and disintegrates."], and further indicated in my 1996 book , but is now being proved. by Forrest Bishop's success in extracting comment from so many self-styled luminaries, not only Establishment but also Dissident. The present crisis means we not only suppress advance. We also lose what we have . Dr Bas Lago 1979 and 1995 " .... The two articles on displacement current .... are wrong in almost every detail and it is vital that this should be clearly demonstrated before undue damage is done .... There are many other items in this book which give cause for concern, for example the false statement that ' The TEM Wave has virtually disappeared from today's electromagnetic theory'. Catt's belief in his own work is clearly sincere, but this reviewer, after lengthy and careful consideration, can find virtually nothing of value in this book." - B. LAGO Lago does not have a grasp of the classical version of the TEM Wave. The only person who has a grasp of the TEM Wave which Lago thinks he is defending against Catt, is Catt. However, only Lago is allowed to publish in the IEE . We have moved forward in our research from 1987, The Conquest of Thought , where I said; "This explains why, in the Establishment replies, it is deemed necessary only to re-state the old theory, as clearly as possible, and unnecessary to refer at all to the new theory." We now see, in The Catt Question , a refusal, or inability, to state the old theory, which is being lost.
